A very tasteful article
When it comes to gum products, today’s consumers are bombarded with a huge variety of exotic names, shiny packaging and the promise of whiter, shinier teeth. In this article, we look at the one factor that influences consumers more than any other – taste.
Peppermint isn’t just peppermint
The peppermint plant is a hybrid mint – a cross between watermint and spearmint. It has a taste all of its own and has always been a favourite among consumers around the world. Though the taste of peppermint varies slightly from country to country, depending on the level of sweeteners and where the peppermint is sourced from, consumers know what peppermint is supposed to taste like. When putting a peppermint-flavoured gum in their mouth, they don't want to taste spearmint, watermint or any other kind of mint. So how do we make sure that Peppermint really does taste as it should? Expert taste testing, that's how.
Accurate, consistent taste testing
In the 1990s, we established an ISO 8589-certified sensory evaluation laboratory at our headquarters in Denmark. At the facility, a panel of nine external taste experts, with over 50 years of combined experience and a passion for their profession, conduct a series of extremely thorough and well-documented tests to ensure that every product has exactly the right taste properties, such as flavour intensity, duration and aftertaste. You could say that we have the best taste in the industry!
More than one sense
Though taste testing may clearly be a critical factor, we also recognise that the other senses have to be treated with just as much attention to detail. Therefore, whether our customers ask us to create an entirely new product or recreate an existing benchmark product, we use our sensory evaluation laboratory to produce exactly the right texture, shape, colour, smell and sound.
Gumlink Confectionery Company is the only company within Private Label that can offer this type of sensory evaluation service.
